We have learned that Duncan City Council has decided to re-name Station Street, west of Government St., E.J. Hughes Place.  Janet Martinez of Excellent Frameworks is thrilled.

“That’s quite appropriate, and a great way to honour Mr. Hughes’ memory,” she said of the Order of Canada and B.C. recipient, who died at age 93 in 2007.

“Victoria has Emily Carr, and we also had one of the most famous Canadians here, and should certainly honour him,” she said, noting the street salute perfectly twins Hughes’ hundredth with Duncan’s Centennial year that ends on March 3, 2013.

It is to be hoped that once the planned for statue of Mr. Hughes is created, that it might be placed at the entrance of E.J. Hughes Place  near Government Street.
