Malaspina's Gallery

Malaspina's Gallery is a series of caves and bluffs on Gabriola Island sculpted by wind, frost and surf. This natural limestone formation is named for Captain Alejandro Malaspina (1754-1810).
In 1791 the King of Spain ordered Malaspina to search for a Northwest Passage and, after examining the Alaska coast as far west as Prince William Sound, he spent about a month at the Spanish outpost in Nootka Sound, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, before returning to Mexico.

Museum Ship, Penticton

S.S. Sicamous, the largest remaining steel-hulled sternwheeler in Canada, is located on the southern shore of Lake Okanagan at Penticton, British Columbia. Built in 1914 in Ontario and assembled at Okanagan Landing for Canadian Pacific Railway and British Columbia Lake and River Service, she plied the waters of Okanagan Lake until 1936, from her Penticton homeport. She was the epitome of luxury and utility providing exceptional passenger, mail and freight service.

The Sergeants' Mess

The Sergeants' Mess is an excellent example of Hughes' early work as an Official War Artist during World War II. "The wealth of material that Hughes produced between 1940 and 1946 is perhaps the most significant body of work by a Canadian painter in the Canadian War Museum." (Ian Thom)
